Cavalry Better UI — Terms & License Agreement
These terms govern your purchase of Cavalry Better UI and your right to use it.
Dies sind die Allgemeinen Geschäfts- und Lizenzbedingungen (AGB) für
Cavalry Better UI. Sie sind auf Englisch verfasst, da sich dieses Angebot überwiegend an
ein internationales, englischsprachiges Publikum richtet; Englisch ist damit auch die
Vertragssprache.

Referred to below as “I” or “me”; “you” means the person buying or using Cavalry Better UI. See also the Impressum.
Dodo Payments is the merchant of record. It sells Cavalry Better UI to you in its own name, collects the payment and handles VAT and sales tax, so the payment contract is with Dodo Payments and also subject to their buyer terms. The license to use the software (sections 4 to 7) is granted to you directly by me, and I stand behind the guarantee and support. This describes who does what; it does not limit which of us you can bring a statutory claim against.
2. What you are buying
You are buying a license to use Cavalry Better UI, a small Windows program that starts the third-party animation software Cavalry and adds features to its user interface (UI scaling, themes, fullscreen modes). It is delivered as a download and licensed to you, not sold as property.
What it does, what it needs and where its limits are is described on the product page, including its “Known Limitations”. That is the information I give you before you buy. Telling you about a limitation is information, not a waiver: unless you expressly and separately agree to a specific deviation (§ 327h BGB), the ordinary statutory standard applies on top of that description.
You need your own Cavalry installation and Windows 10 or 11. Cavalry Better UI does not include Cavalry or any right to use it.
3. Purchase, price and delivery
The product page is an invitation to make an offer, not a binding offer. The purchase is concluded in the Dodo Payments checkout, which shows you the steps, lets you correct your entries and shows the binding total before you pay. Prices are in euro and include VAT; if you pay in another currency, Dodo Payments or your bank may convert it and add a fee. There are no shipping costs.
After payment you receive a confirmation and receipt (your copy of the contract — please keep it) and a personal download link by email, normally within minutes. If it does not arrive, check your spam folder and then write to info@splines.me. If a payment is charged back through no fault of mine, the license is suspended until it is settled.
4. Your license
Once you have paid, I grant you a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive license, personal to you, to use Cavalry Better UI:
- One license, one person. You may install it on every device you personally work on. If several people use it, for example in a studio, each needs their own license.
- Commercial use is included. Use it for paid and client work at no extra cost. I claim no rights in anything you create with Cavalry.
- Backups. You may keep copies for backup and archiving.
All rights in Cavalry Better UI remain with me; rights not granted here are reserved.
5. What you may not do
- No sharing or reselling. Do not pass on, upload, sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute Cavalry Better UI or your download link, for money or for free. This does not restrict a transfer that mandatory law permits.
- No removing notices and no bypassing of any license check in Cavalry Better UI.
- No reverse engineering of Cavalry Better UI, except where the law allows it. In particular, you keep your rights under §§ 69d and 69e UrhG; a term excluding them would be void (§ 69g (2) UrhG).
- No unlawful use, including use in breach of your Cavalry terms (see section 6).
6. Cavalry and its own terms
An independent add-on, on top of Cavalry
Cavalry Better UI is an unofficial, independent product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or supported by Canva or Scene Group Ltd, the makers of Cavalry. Your Cavalry license continues to apply to you in full.
Your use of Cavalry remains governed by your Cavalry license, which is a separate agreement between you and its provider: currently Canva's Terms of Use together with the Cavalry Terms, or, for older licenses, the Cavalry End User License Agreement of Scene Group Ltd. Nothing in these terms modifies, grants rights under or limits that agreement. You are responsible for using Cavalry, with or without Cavalry Better UI, in line with it.
How Cavalry Better UI works. It does not modify, patch or replace any file of your Cavalry installation, and it does not bypass Cavalry's license checks or other protective functions. It starts the unchanged Cavalry, is loaded into it while it starts, and from there works through what the running program offers: the mechanisms of Qt, the framework Cavalry is built with, functions that Cavalry's own libraries export, and settings Cavalry holds in memory while it runs. Start Cavalry the usual way, and it runs exactly as shipped.
How it was built. Cavalry offers no official interface for these features. To make an independently written program work together with Cavalry, I observed and studied how Cavalry works, as the law permits for exactly this purpose: §§ 69d (3) and 69e UrhG, Articles 5 (3) and 6 of the EU Software Directive 2009/24/EC and, for English law, sections 50B and 50BA of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. Contract terms that exclude these rights are void (§ 69g (2) UrhG, Article 8 of the Directive, section 296A CDPA). The Court of Justice of the European Union has also held that changing the data a program holds in memory while it runs, without changing its code, falls outside the copyright protection of that program (judgment of 17 October 2024, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe v Datel, C-159/23). No part of Cavalry's code is copied into or distributed with Cavalry Better UI.
An honest word on the risk. Cavalry's terms restrict modifying or adapting Cavalry. I designed Cavalry Better UI not to do that and believe the law above supports this, but I cannot guarantee how Canva, Scene Group or a court would see it, and these terms are not legal advice. If you need certainty, for example because your studio has compliance rules, check your Cavalry terms or ask Canva before you buy. Should Canva or Scene Group object, I may have to stop selling or updating Cavalry Better UI; section 7 then applies to updates, and your statutory rights (section 9) remain unaffected.
7. Updates and new Cavalry versions
Lifetime updates — but no automatic support of new Cavalry versions
You get every version of Cavalry Better UI I release, at no extra cost, for as long as I develop and offer the product. That does not mean that a new version follows each Cavalry release, that it follows within a particular time, or that every Cavalry version will be supported.
- Cavalry updates can break it. Cavalry Better UI is built for the Qt version and the internals of the current Cavalry release. Canva can change both at any time, without notice, and a Cavalry update may stop some or all features from working. That is a property of an add-on to software I do not control.
- What I commit to. I intend to follow new Cavalry releases and to ship compatible updates where I can, and I will do my best to do so promptly. This is a statement of intent, not a promise of a response time or an outcome; some changes may not be possible to adapt to at all.
- In the meantime. Starting Cavalry the usual way always gives you the original Cavalry. Where your Cavalry license allows it, you can also keep using a Cavalry version that Cavalry Better UI supports.
- “Lifetime” is about the price of updates. If I ever stop developing Cavalry Better UI, you keep your license to the versions you have; you simply receive no new versions. This does not affect your statutory rights.
Installing an update is your choice. My statutory obligation to supply updates needed to keep the product in conformity with the contract (§ 327f BGB) remains unaffected.
8. 14-day money-back guarantee
Not happy? Write to me within 14 days.
Email info@splines.me within 14 days of your purchase, from your checkout email address or with your order number, and you get your money back in full, no reason needed.
This voluntary guarantee comes on top of your statutory rights and does not limit them. The refund goes back through Dodo Payments to your payment method, normally within a few working days. With the refund your license ends, so please delete Cavalry Better UI; what you created with it stays yours. One refund per person; I may decline repeated or obviously abusive requests.
9. Withdrawal, defects and your statutory rights
Withdrawal. As a consumer in the EU you normally have a 14-day statutory right of withdrawal. For paid digital content it only ends early if delivery has begun, you expressly agreed to that before the period was up, confirmed that you know you lose the right by agreeing, and received a confirmation of the contract on a durable medium (§ 356 (6) no. 2 BGB). Downloading alone is not enough. If you are unsure whether your right is still open, assume it is, and address your withdrawal to the seller named in your order confirmation or to me. Either way, the guarantee in section 8 gives you 14 days.
Defects. The statutory rules apply, for consumers those on digital products (§§ 327 ff. BGB), and nothing in these terms restricts them. Please write to me first if something does not work — I can fix it fastest — but you never have to before exercising a statutory right.
10. Support
I am happy to help at info@splines.me. I am one person doing this next to other work, so apart from my statutory obligations and section 7, there is no entitlement to support, to a response time, or to feature requests being implemented. If you send me feedback, I may use it to improve the product; I will not publish your name or message without asking.
11. Liability
I am liable without limitation for injury to life, body or health, for intent and gross negligence, where I gave a guarantee or fraudulently concealed a defect, and under the German Product Liability Act. For slight negligence I am liable only for breaching an obligation essential to the contract on which you may regularly rely, and then only for the damage foreseeable and typical for this kind of contract. Any further liability is excluded.
Except where I am liable without limitation under the first paragraph, I am not liable for changes Canva makes to Cavalry or for measures Canva or Scene Group take under their own terms, and my liability for loss of data is limited to the reasonable cost of restoring it from appropriate, regularly made backups — so please back up your Cavalry scenes. These limits also apply to anyone acting on my behalf; they do not affect sections 8 and 9.
12. How long the license lasts
Your license is permanent. I can end it only for good cause, in particular if you seriously breach section 5 (for example by distributing the software) and do not stop after a reasonable deadline, which I can skip only where waiting cannot reasonably be expected of me. It also ends if you use the guarantee or withdraw. Statutory rights of either of us to terminate or end the contract are unaffected. When it ends, stop using Cavalry Better UI and delete your copies; your own work is unaffected.
13. Changes, applicable law and final provisions
The terms you accepted at checkout govern your purchase; later changes apply only to future purchases. A future version of Cavalry Better UI may be offered under new terms. They apply to you only if you expressly accept them, never merely because you keep using the product, and updates I owe you by law (§ 327f BGB) never depend on accepting them. If you do not accept them, keep the version you have.
German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods; as a consumer you keep the protection of the mandatory law of your country of residence. For merchants, the place of jurisdiction is Heidelberg, Germany. I am not willing to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board, and I am not obliged to (§ 36 VSBG). You can always contact me directly at info@splines.me.
If a provision is invalid, the rest stays in force and the statutory rules apply instead. No sentence here is meant to exclude a right that cannot legally be excluded; if one reads that way, the law prevails. Questions? Write to info@splines.me.
